I am a student at Wayne State University, currently pursuing BSW (Bachelor in Social Work) course. I have always been interested in macro social work and more specifically community organizing and development because I believe myself to be more effective at that level.
I have had a wide variety of experiences in community work that has fueled my interest for more development and learning. During my first semester in college I developed a recycling proposal for WSU dorms in partnership with Recycle Here! that was feasible and affordable for the University to partake in. As a junior, I collaborated with the Another Chance program to create a public online directory for culturally competent services for marginalized groups like Arab Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans in Wayne County.
As a past Intern at the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion I facilitate workshops and moderate dialogues on many social justice issues such as immigration, sexism, and structural racism, while using digital media to promote youth led campaigns. In between all of this, and in response to the need for youth activism, I am a founding member of the Detroit Minds and Hearts Fellowship where I work with inner city youth to help them identify needs in their community as well as launch their very own initiatives to address those needs. Currently, I am a participant in the Detroit Future Media Organizing program which is 20-week workshop training for Detroiters who are interested in the creation of grassroots media and community cultural production.
Overall, I am very interested in grassroots movements and community organizing in Detroit. I welcome any opportunities that will further increase my knowledge in community organizing, program coordination/development, policy, advocacy, social justice, and social change.
